This was part of Enbridge Sustain’s end to end energy solutioning (including design, installation, financing and maintenance) being offered to Kingston Waterfront Development Ltd.
The system’s technical design was challenging for a multi-unit residential building project due to the site’s complexities. The two 19- and 23-storey condominiums will be built on a pier that extends into Lake Ontario, which means a thick concrete “raft” slab foundation and water management complications due to proximity to the lake.
After investigating and evaluating potential approaches, our team arrived at a safe and effective technical solution. The underground infrastructure would be offset from the location of the buildings, and the system would utilize a closed-loop approach to mitigate the impact of any inconsistent sub-surface water.
To deliver this project, we are leveraging the expertise and capabilities of Aecon’s in-house GeoExchange Systems team to drill 149 boreholes at a depth of 450 feet.
